Investment in Efficient Machinery

Polypipe Building Services has strengthened its manufacturing efficiency, productivity, and sustainability with a major automation upgrade at its Aylesford production facility. The shift to fully automated lines—supported by robotics and AI-driven inspection—forms a key part of the company’s long‑term strategy to boost performance and reduce reliance on skilled labour.

- Automated production lines now operate across core areas, improving consistency and reducing manual intervention.

- AI‑driven quality inspection enhances accuracy, detecting dimensional variation, ovality and moulding defects.

- Robotic handling systems streamline packaging and reduce waste.

- Energy and material savings achieved through more efficient, repeatable processes.

Prioritising Recycling Initiatives

We’ve recently invested in upgraded extrusion and moulding machinery to enhance the sustainability of both our individual components and our prefabricated solutions. These new systems have significantly improved manufacturing efficiency and allow us to process both rework material and post‑consumer recycled content.

As a result, our use of recycled material has increased from 5% to 28%, with some products now incorporating up to 65% recycled content.

Cut Down on Waste With Prefabrication

Specifiers can address sustainability challenges earlier in the project lifecycle by choosing prefabricated systems that minimise waste before construction even begins. Manufacturing in controlled factory environments enables precise material use, better recycling of production waste, lower carbon emissions, and continuous improvements in the embodied carbon of building products.

Advances in modern manufacturing and prefabrication give construction professionals powerful opportunities to reduce carbon footprints, cut waste sent to landfill, and specify products that support long‑term environmental performance.
